Todd Lockwood Digests and Misleader.org Notables

Back to SeanKReynolds.com home

You'll notice things in this category listed as "Todd Lockwood Digests." These are mailings by artist Todd Lockwood culled from news stories about governmental and environmental concerns. Todd considers himself a moderate, and is often annoyed by Democrats as well as Republicans. If you'd like to be added to his mailing list, contact me and I'll forward your message to him ... or just find his email address on his site and mail him directly. The digests here are what Todd mailed out before the 2004 election. Note that I eventually fell behind on the digests, so you won't find any before February 2004 here. Still, the older material is worth reading.

Nov 7th 2004 update: The election is over, but there are still shenanigans going on. As these old articles about Bush won't affect the election, I'm taking them down for readability purposes. Instead, I'm including a So Long For Now digest from Todd Lockwood, covering some major points and major links.

11/8/03 American Iraq war deaths surpass the number of American deaths in the first three years of Vietnam. But hey, "mission accomplished," right? More death from your killer president. (Reuters)

11/8/03 Bush Grants interview to the Sun newspaper. If you're not familiar with that name, it's the British equivalent of the National Enquirer. Oh, and it features photos of topless women in every issue. This is the same president who vowed when he took office to "restore dignity to the White House." This is the same Bush who hasn't given a solo interview this year to the New York Times, Washington Post, Time, or Newsweek, and he's never givin an interview to the L.A. Times, Chigago Tribune, Boston Globe, or many other major publications. Now I don't have a problem with the nudity in the Sun or its tabloid nature, it's (a) the hypocrisy of "bringing dignity" to the office of president, and (b) snubbing US publications to talk to foreign ones. (Washington Post)

11/6/03 Todd Lockwood Digest #105

11/6/03 Halliburton's contract extension canceled because of allegations they're overcharging taxpayers. Duh!! (Misleader.org)

11/6/03 Bush Administration Neo-Cons Oversolf Pre-War Intelligence to justify war in Iraq. Duh! (Misleader.org)

11/4/03 Looks like the Bush administration is planning on reinstating the draft. How much do you want to bet that rich kids and kids of people who made big donations to Bush's campaign will conveniently not be called? BTW, here is a link to the DefendAmerica.mil website with some nice patriotic talk about the draft, though as of the time of this posting the site has been taken down.

11/4/03 Cronyism in Iraq: Many of the contracts for Iraq have gone to companies that made huge political contributions to Bush. Surprise, surprise.

11/4/03 George Bush won't commit to giving classified reports to the independant 9/11 panel. He claims they're "very sensitive." Which probably means "incriminating to Bush or his allies." (NY Times)

10/27/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 103

10/26/03 Deduct your Hummer. Because of Bush's "economic incentive package," small businesses and the self-employed can deduct the entire cost of their Hummer from their taxes, simply because of the weight of the vehicle. Even though this was intended to help farmers & small business owners haul stuff for their business. Smoke and ash for the world, on a base of spent fossil fuels. (Washington Post)

10/22/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 102

10/22/03 With so many troops in Iraq, our military bases are being guarded by private firms. Another example of the expensive privatization of Bush's war. (Daily Mislead)

10/20/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 100

10/20/03 Bush ads target Hispanics saying that the Clear Skies initiative would make better air quality in the US, except that it would actually allow more pollutants than what are currently allowed. Hispanics in California tend to live in the parts of the state with the most polluted air. (Daily Mislead)

10/13/03 Bush professes to help the military and at the same time tried to move or cut funds from schoolchildren of the military in order to fund his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Daily Mislead)

10/13/03 Bush caving in to pharmaceutical companies after promising to help fight AIDS. I think if Bush were HIV positive he'd be strongarming every company attached to his ass to find a cure (some comedian I heard once said the way to cure cancer was to infect the ten richest white men in America with cancer ... in one year we'd have a cure.) (Guardian)

10/12/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 093

10/11/03 Identical "letter home" from soldier in Iraq sent to many places all over the USA. Propaganda from the govt/military. Essentially the same letter, with names changed. (The Olympian)

10/11/03 Republicans pushing to exempt "hydraulic fracturing" from limitations in the Safe Water Drinking Act. This method of oil drilling used by Halliburton may pollute underground drinking water supplies; the EPA has been studying the method but Republicans are pushing to let it through. These people will turn the world into smoke and ash. (San Francisco Gate)

10/9/03 Get Your War On -- political and war satire using 70s corporate clip art with modern text.

10/9/03 Bush is two-faced about security leaks. In response to a 2001 leak he said "This can't stand. We can't have leaks of classified information. It's not in our nation's interest." Yet in response to the outing of the CIA operative he says, "this is a large administration, and there's a lot of senior officials . . . I have no idea whether we'll find out who the leaker is." Not only does the Bush administration have no plans to call for the leaker to come forward, they may try to protect him by invoking executive privilidge if the facts warrant it. ( Daily Mislead)

10/4/03 CIA secret operative outed by white house officials in response to her husband's critical comments of the reasons for the war in Iraq. This is nothing but an attempt by the white house to punish those who disagree with them. Did I mention this operative's job was to find terrorist groups trying to smuggle WMDs into the USA? Now her whole team is at risk and can't do their job. The white house says that the Justice Department will investigate to find any wrongdoing, but Ashcroft (head of the Justice Dept) is hardly neutral in this matter. We need a neutral special prosecutor to investigate this so the white house doesn't sweep it under the rug. The link is an online petition, please sign it. (MoveOn.org)

10/4/03 Bush still defending Iraq war even though still no confirmed WMDs. Yes, we're better off without Saddam Hussein in power, but it doesn't change the fact that they exagerrated sketchy reports of WMDs (none found so far) and of Iraq's threat to US security (none) and used such things to justify the attack. America was lied to by the White House and senior government officials. (CNN)

10/4/03 Woman's Family Angry Over Her Burial because even the "large" coffin they purchased wasn't large enough for her 500-lb. corpse. (WKMG Florida)

10/1/03 US troops in Iraq until 2005 according to the most recent estimate. This contradicts what the Bush adminstration said just last week, and the initial premise of this being a "short war." (Daily Mislead)

9/30/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 078

9/30/03 We have a huge deficit even though Bush said his tax cuts to the rich "could happen without fear of budget deficit.A Why is the former prez of several failed corporations making economic decisions for the whole country? (Daily Mislead)

9/29/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 084

9/29/03 473,000 jobs lost this year vs. 500,000 new ones created, which mean Bush's predictions (and economic plan) were wrong, if not lies and wishful thinking. (Daily Mislead)

9/23/03 Bush administration knew Iraq's oil industry couldn't pay for the reconstruction of Iraq. But they claimed it could, and are now asking for US taxpayer money to fund the difference: so far about $18 BILLION. (Daily Mislead)

9/22/03 Todd Lockwood Digest 076

9/22/03 The Bush administration is using conservative lobbyists to attack scientists working for the US government if they produce research work that says pollution is responsible for global warming. (Guardian Unlimited) Here's another article on the same topic. (Greenpeace) You will inherit nothing but smoke and ash.

9/21/03 MoveOn.org has organized a petition to sent to key leaders in Congress to withhold Bush's requested $87 billion until he dismisses the team responsible for mistakes in Iraq (starting with "I shake Saddam's hand" Rumsfeld) and turns over rebuilding authority to the UN. (MoveOn.org)
