This is part of Foundry's Greek Hoplite Characters pack (#WG2/6), and I'm using him for Zale Thromes, one of the PCs in my New Argonauts campaign. Zale is of Poseidon's bloodline, and his player (Brian) wanted a nautical color scheme. First, he's wearing studded leather, unlike your typical metal-armored hoplite. This is presented as a mid-brown color on the greaves, helm, and breastplate, with bronze studs (highlighted with dark gold), and the kilt-plates and are black with bronze and dark gold. The shield is wooden with a bronze disk in the center, painted with an octopus (one of Poseidon's creatures, and I actually looked up how the Greeks painted these creatures on their shields to get the shape right). His clothing is green, as is the shoulder strap for his sword belt and his helmet's crest. His spear is a metal rod (also from Foundry) cut to size and painted brown and steel, with a blue-green and green band to make the metal stand out a bit more from the wood, and to reinforce his color scheme. The spear is glued into a hole drilled in the base and held against his body with a tiny drop of superglue to keep it from falling over. The flesh is a light brown (he actually has the lightest skin of all of the PCs) drybrushed with an even lighter brown. The base (glued to a washer, made smooth with putty, and painted black) is flocked with some herb I bought at Michael's (it's in the soap-making section and is either an exfoliant or supposed to make the soap aromatic, but it like it because it looks like dry grass). |
