The New Argonauts -- Greek CentaurUnlike the nature-loving centaur in the MM, the Greek centaurs are lusty boors with a habit of crashing weddings and trying to abscond with the bride. Centaurs are the orcs of the Greek myths ... nobody wants them around, and the common people are happy when heroes show up to drive away or kill any centaurs in the area....(Like all monsters presented in The New Argonauts, this creature has an entry for Knowledge DCs when heroes try to recall what they know about this kind of creature.) Description: Unlike the MM centaur, Greek centaurs are boorish, rude, drunk, rapacious brutes that eat raw meat, crash parties and weddings, and try to run off with women. They originated in Thessaly (home of the Lapith people) and are the sons of Thessaly's king Ixion and a cloud (sent by Zeus to fool Ixion, who lusted after Hera). Knowledge (history): 10--Centaurs are brutish monsters that are often drunk and like to steal mortal women to bear their young. 15--They are technically part of some royal family, though they are an annoyance even in their homeland and are tolerated only grudgingly. 20--Their lineage goes back to king Ixion of Thessaly, who sought Hera for a bride and was tricked by Zeus into fathering the centaurs with a cloud. Tactics: Centaurs shout insults at their opponents and use their bows as much as possible. If seriously wounded, they run away.
